Sydney, 3–14 March 2027 | Capitol Theatre, Haymarket
Shen Yun returns to the Capitol Theatre for a limited 2027 season, bringing an all-new production to Sydney for two weeks in March. The show is a journey through five thousand years of Chinese civilisation, told through classical Chinese dance, an orchestra blending Eastern and Western instruments, and animated backdrops that extend the stage into another world.
The production has drawn praise from an unusually broad range of public figures. Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett described it as “exquisitely beautiful” and “an extraordinary experience for us and the children.” Emmy Award-winning journalist Rita Cosby called it “a story of incredible hope and incredible spirit,” while motivational speaker Tony Robbins found it “magnificent… very enlightening.” Former Czech Minister of Culture Daniel Herman went further, saying it “brings great hope… It is truly a touch of heaven” .
Performances run approximately 2 hours 20 minutes including a 20-minute interval. The show contains theatrical smoke and loud sound effects in certain scenes, and is not recommended for children under 4. Everyone regardless of age must hold a valid ticket .
With a limited run of shows across two weeks, booking early is advisable.
Planning a night out or a weekend in the city? Make it fun and fuss-free with a stay just around the corner.
The Capitol Theatre sits at 13 Campbell Street in Haymarket, on the edge of Chinatown. The hotel’s Wentworth Avenue address places you in the same part of the CBD, with the theatre reachable on foot — no train, no rideshare, no parking to arrange before a show.
You’re just a short 10-minute walk away! Head down George Street or catch the L2 Light Rail straight to Capitol Square. It’s quick, easy, and no car required.
With the theatre close by, you can walk to an evening performance and back without factoring in travel time. That leaves room for a relaxed dinner beforehand rather than a rushed one.
Mee So, the hotel’s restaurant, serves Japanese and Korean-inspired dishes — bao buns, donburi bowls, gyoza. In-room dining continues until late, useful if you return from a performance and want something light without heading out again.
Chinatown is a short walk away, with its noodle houses, dim sum spots, and Asian supermarkets. For a show that explores Chinese civilisation, a meal in the neighbourhood beforehand makes a natural pairing.
If you’re making an evening of it, the CBD location means the theatre, dinner, and your room are all within easy reach of each other. No taxis between stops, no timetable to consult.
